W. Edward Schenkein (Ed)
CPA, CVA, CFF, MBA - Partner
“Forget what you have done for your friends and remember what they have done for you. Disregard what the world owes you and concentrate on what you owe the world.” – Excerpt from the Talmud
As a current partner at StarkSchenkein, LLP, Ed serves as the director of the firm’s audit department, leads the firm’s quality control efforts, and guides the business advisory arm of the practice. His responsibilities as director of assurance services include overseeing financial statement audit, reviews and compilations. As co-director of the firm’s business advisory services, he guides public and privately-held businesses in various stages of their development. Beyond his leadership roles, Ed provides “in the trenches” audit and advisory services to a variety of industries, including oil & gas, mining, high tech, alternative energy, recycling, telecommunications, hospitality, real estate, broker-dealer, not-for-profit, and health care.
Adding value to the services he provides his clients is a top priority for Ed. He focuses on customizing service plans so the firm is able to consistently exceed client expectations. It is his goal to help his clients increase revenue while spending less time in their business. For example, in one engagement Ed helped a client redevelop their business plan and increase employee utilization. As a result, the company’s improved operations boosted revenues and profits. In another noteworthy success, Ed assisted a client in tracking their purchases and sales to ensure employees were properly motivated to maintain or increase margins. This project resulted in increased margins and net income for the company.
Prior to the establishment of StarkSchenkein, LLP in 1994, Ed spent four years as a senior consultant in litigation and support services at Gelfond Hochstadt Pangburn Stark & Co., P.C. He began his accounting career at Laventhol & Howath as an auditor in 1988.
Constantly engaged in his work, Ed displays a focused, resourceful, results-oriented attitude to the business environment around him. His attraction to the accounting and litigation world began as a child admiring his father’s work as a business lawyer and his aunt who is a CPA. Watching these two role models drove him to blend the strengths he observed to become a trusted advisor to the clients he serves today. Ed believes his ability to plan ahead and his desire to improve helped him quickly develop into a successful and trustworthy leader. He has flourished as a partner because of his ability to understand the needs of his clients and their businesses.
Born and raised in Denver (6th generation!), Ed now shares his love for the natural beauty of the city with his wife Judy (a renowned Denver Pediatrician) and their two children. In his free time, he can be found weight training, running, practicing yoga, skiing, or reading.
